Why Do I Need a Wellness Coach? Part 2

Last week I showed you an example of someone’s wellness vision and 3-month goals.  The wellness vision and 3-month goals are designed by the client during the first couple of coaching sessions. Part of my role is to help you to craft goals that are SMART. SMART goals are specific, measurable, action-based, realistic and time-lined.

Wellness Vision:

I am living near the beach, living modestly, but comfortably. I work part-time and am spending 2 hours a day writing my book. I am riding my bicycle and eating clean. My BMI is in the normal range. I entertain friends and family often. I have lots of energy and can keep up with my grandchildren. I volunteer for a nonprofit ministry that assists the homeless. I am learning to play the guitar and honing my jewelry making skills.

3-Month Goals:

1. I will walk briskly for 30 minutes 4 times a week.

2. I will eat at least 3 vegetables and 2 fruits each day.

3. I will spend 15 minutes a day meditating.

4. I will write for 30 minutes, 3 days a week.

5. I will implement a plan with a financial planner.

The 3-month goals represent the behaviors that the client will be engaging in consistently in 3-months time. In order to get there, we now will turn to creating weekly goals.

Week 1 Goals:

1. I will journal my intake and mood on Sunday and Monday.

2. I will grocery shop on Tuesday for 2 healthy snacks per work day.

3. I will schedule a tour of the new gym by my house on Saturday.

4. I will drink 8 glasses of water, 5 days next week (Mon-Fri).  

5. I will research meditation apps on Wednesday.

Setting SMART goals, like the ones above, create a solid game plan for success. We will strategize regarding what needs to be put in place to be successful. I will ensure that the client feels confident that they can meet the goals. When I reconvene with the client at next week’s session, they will know whether or not they met their goals because they are SMART goals.

Why do you need a wellness coach? You need a wellness coach because change is hard! I will provide the support and accountability to help you take charge of your health and wellbeing. As you master a healthy lifestyle you will find that you have new tools to utilize in all areas of your life, for the rest of your life. Why waste one more day not living the life that you were created for?
