How Does Coaching Work?

TurpinFamilyPortraits-157Coaching is a radical departure from my previous training as an RN. In that world, patients were told what to do and why they should do it. That formula has failed miserably in the majority of cases. Behavior change leading to permanent lifestyle change requires a more expansive approach, whether you want to improve energy, lose weight, get in shape, manage stress or sleep better.

Assess Your Well-Being

You complete a confidential well-being assessment online.

Dream Big

We discuss the results of the assessment and create a customized wellness vision for you. The wellness vision is a picture of you living your best life and incorporates your strengths, motivators and challenges.

Create the Blueprint

Together we design 3-month goals and the first week’s goals. All goals are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Action-based, Realistic and Time-lined).

Begin Your Transformation

The change journey begins.  Each week:

  • We discuss the previous week’s goals, savoring your victories and extracting the learning opportunities
  • We brainstorm together to meet any particular challenges, obstacles or opportunities
  • We design new goals to work on before the next session

Your wellness vision, 3-month goals and weekly goals will be accessible online and password protected, as will your progress. The coaching platform allows us to communicate in between sessions and track metrics. The technology is a great benefit to keeping you motivated and accountable.

Coaching sessions take place over the phone, or using FaceTime or Skype—your choice. Sessions last 35-45 minutes each week or every other week. Many clients enjoy the convenience and privacy of telecoaching. It typically takes 3 months to make significant progress toward your goals and 6 months for new habits to become firmly established.

There is a structure to the coaching session, but the client sets the agenda. I don’t tell you what to do, but I will offer information and advice within the scope of my expertise, and only with your permission. I create a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to share your heart, dream big and embark on the exciting journey of change.
